Patiently waiting for the numbers on the scales to go down can be VERY frustrating!
Especially if you believe you’ve been doing everything in your power to improve your healthy lifestyle.
Kirstie Brice, who has lost 26kg by following the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge, says there are a few things she takes into consideration when this happens.
“Losing weight can sometimes feel like a never ending battle, especially when the scales refuse to move,” she says. “But there are things you can do to boost your mood.”
5 things to do when the scales aren’t moving
1. Take progress photos
“Taking new progress photos allows you to look back at how far you have come. Just because your weight hasn’t gone down doesn’t mean you body hasn’t changed.”
2. Take measurements
“When losing weight this can be the best form of tracking the changes in your body. When we reduce our body fat and gain muscle, the scales will often stay the same but your body leans out and in return your body measurements will reduce.”
3. Change things up
“Are you stuck in a rut, when I feel as though my progress is nonexistent I like to change up my routine. Try changing your exercise, adding weights will really increase your workout and burn a few extra calories.”
4. Recalculate your BMR
“It’s quite possible that you may be eating too many or too few calories. Checking your BMR regularly will give you an accurate idea of how many calories you should be consuming.”

5. Have a cheat meal
“Sometimes when I’ve been eating healthily and I notice the scales aren’t moving, I plan on having a cheat meal and sometimes this spurs me into working out harder or being even stricter with what I put into my mouth – because I want my reward. And sometimes I notice the number on my scales go down.”
“The most important thing to remember is that the number shown on your scale does not define you,” says Kristie.
“Don’t let a number determine who you are and don’t throw in all your hard work over a slight gain.”
