Mum Mandy Maree Admiraal celebrates her INCREDIBLE body transformation and 29kg weight loss after having been overweight most of her life and tipping the scales at 120kg.
Despite many attempts of lose weight over the years, it wasn’t until Mandy was told “you will likely not be able to conceive and are at high risk of having a heart attack before your 35th birthday” that she decided to take control of her life, for good.
Since signing up to The Healthy Mummy 28 Day Weight Loss Challenges she has lost 29kg and is now fitter, stronger and healthier than she has been in her adult life.
She shares her incredible weight loss journey and amazing transformation below.
Mandy’s weight loss journey – her early life
Reflecting on her life Mandy says “I have always been bigger, the earliest I remember was when I couldn’t get the neon Catchit bike shorts. I did not understand why I just couldn’t buy the size I needed. That was pre-teen. I became more aware in high school but at that stage, it was what it was and I just hid.”
Making bad food choices
“When I left home and moved in with uni friends my food choices were not great and resulted in more weight gain.
Then I would get depressed over the weight and eat more and it spiralled for years until I got to size 26 – weighing 120 kilos.”
PCOS and type 2 diabetes
Diagnosed with PCOS and type two diabetes Mandy says “I was on medication for both and suffered the side effects.”
Turning point – high-risk of a heart attack before 35
The biggest wake-up call came when Mandy was told that if she did not lose weight she would not be able to have kids and was at high risk of a heart attack before she hit 35.
Mandy says “This jolted me back to reality.”
Lots of attempts to lose weight – none sustainable long-term.
After various attempts and numerous diets over the years (some worked – short term, but nothing was sustainable long-term) Mandy got down to 82kg.
This is when she got married and proceeded to have two beautiful children which she said: “completed our families.”
With her weight fluctuating between 85-95kgs by the time Christmas came around she was back to 95kg.
Determined to become a better and healthier role model for her kids, and be around long enough to see them grow, Mandy decided it was time to change her ways for good.
She says “I wanted to like what I saw in the mirror – for the first time ever.”
With the encouragement and support of her friend Courtney Thursfield, who had success with The Healthy Mummy 28 Day Weight Loss Challenges, Mandy decided to join too.
After joining the 28 Day Challenges Mandy says “I have gradually lost weight every month. Not once have I gained weight in almost a year!”
Mandy’s weight loss results
Mandy now weighs 66kgs and wears size 8! (down from 95kg). That’s a loss of 29kg since joining The Healthy Mummy.
She says “My goal is to get to 65kgs and maintain that, plus get fitter.
I did the 5km Melbourne Marathon with my daughter in October and then the colour run with her and my family in November. I will be doing lots more fun runs in 2019. I feel fitter, healthier, happier and am embracing turning 40 in January.”

Friends and family are getting on board
Since losing weight and turning her life around Mandy has had 14 friends and family join up and all have experienced varying levels of success.

My daughter exercises with me each night and we go jogging together. She is loving the time we spend working out together and so do I.
