Why is it so hard to stay on track through winter?

Lots of mums find prioristing their health goals during winter challenging. The days are shorter, the weather is colder, and it can be hard to find the motivation to get moving – not to mention the pull of comfort food.

Most common issues mums face, and that you may also face include:

  • Lack of time: Busy mums are often running around all day, from taking care of their kids to working to running errands. There’s not always a lot of time left over for self-care, like cooking healthy meals and exercising.
  • Lack of Motivation and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): SAD affects many people during the winter months, causing a decrease in mood and motivation. This can make it challenging to stay motivated to exercise and maintain healthy habits.
  • Unhealthy habits: Many mums develop unhealthy habits over winter, such as eating comfort foods to cope with stress or skipping workouts because it’s too cold outside. These habits can make it difficult to lose weight and get healthy.

Here are a few tips to help you stay on track:

  • Make a plan: The first step is to make a plan. Decide what you want to achieve, and then set realistic goals. For example, you might want to lose weight or be able to run a 5K. Once you know what you want to achieve, you can start to make a plan for how you’re going to reach your goals. With your 50 Day Challenge you can set your goals and tick off your accomplishments as you go.
  • Find a support system: Having a support system can make a big difference in your success. Find a friend or family member who is also trying to lose weight or get healthy, and work together to support each other. You can also join the Healthy Mummy private support group to get encouragement from other mums.
  • Make small changes: Don’t try to overhaul your entire diet and exercise routine all at once. Start by making small changes that you can stick with. For example, you could start by packing your lunch for work instead of eating out, or taking a 10-minute walk after dinner each night.
  • Don’t give up: There will be days when you don’t feel like sticking to your plan. But it’s important to remember that even small changes can make a big difference over time. So don’t give up on your health goals. Just keep at it and you’ll eventually reach your destination.

Remember, you’re not alone. There are many other busy mums who are trying to lose weight and get healthy and if you want more support this winter you can also access The Healthy Mummy App free for 7 days.
