How to lose weight in the face
First things first – here at The Healthy Mummy we are all about body positivity and want you to always remember you are beautiful just the way you are!!
We do however understand that at times we often look in the mirror and begin to worry that our face is looking puffy, tired or the wrinkles are beginning to show.
We think it is a sign of living your best life, especially those laugh lines! But if you are worried here are a few things to consider.
How to lose weight in the face
The experts do tell us that it’s not actually possible to lose weight from specific areas of your body like the face for example. You typically lose weight all over during weight loss, including from your hips, thighs, butt, and face.
“Targeting fat in your face and cheeks? Unfortunately, it’s as possible as finding a unicorn at your local deli,” says Gina Keatley, CDN, co-owner of Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy. “Spot reduction is a myth, but overall weight loss can help slim your face.”
“The fullness in your face is going to depend on your overall body fat percentage—there’s no way to specifically target it. If it’s higher, your cheeks will be larger.” says Albert Matheny, RD, CSCS, co-founder of SoHo Strength Lab.
It is important to consider a few other factors first as well.
- Medications
- Sodium levels
- Alcohol
- Hairstyle
- Lack of sleep
- Stress
- Makeup
Keep in mind certain medications you’re on, as well as how much sodium and alcohol you’ve had lately can affect the appearance of your face, according to Jessica Cording, RD, a nutritionist and the author of The Little Book of Game-Changers.
It also could just be something simple like lack of sleep, a recent haircut or a change in makeup and the application techniques you use.
Stress can also play havoc on your poor face. Stress-reduction techniques, like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing, can help alleviate stress and promote a slimmer facial appearance.
