How this mum lost 25.5kg and her psoriasis is now clear

Kerrie Argent-Benfield is a 49-year-old mum-of-two who is based in Victoria.

She has lost 25.2kg in 12 months by following the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge and she no longer feels withdrawn from life.

“I feel fitter, my stamina has increased, my sleeping pattern has improved, I now eat nutritional food and no longer suffer from foot or back issues.

How Kerrie lost 25.2kg in 12 months and cleared her psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes red, itchy scaly patches and it most commonly appears on the knees, elbows, torso and scalp.

“My skin is clearer, I suffer from psoriasis and haven’t had a breakout in the past 12 months,” says Kerrie.

“Mentally, I am a happier person, I am enjoying life and making the most of each day.  I no longer want to lock myself away.  My thoughts are clearer and I am no longer tired all the time.”

In fact, Kerrie admits her psoriasis flare ups can be caused by stress and in 2020 she had a major outbreak.

“I wasn’t stressed therefore couldn’t work out why it was becoming so bad. When I started my Healthy Mummy journey in early 2021 I noticed my psoriasis was clearing up,” she says.

“Cutting out artificial sugar and eating clean and healthy I believe has played a major role.  My skin has been clear since.

“Psoriasis can be painful due to the redness, itchiness and dryness of your skin, cracking and bleeding was a common occurrence, no to mention the embarrassment of having bright red skin irritation over your body. 

“I would hide myself away because I didn’t want anyone to see it.”

What a typical day looks like for Kerrie

Breakfast: Healthy Mummy smoothie

Morning tea: Coffee and piece of fruit

Lunch: Healthy Mummy smoothie

Afternoon snack: Protein ball and fruit

Dinner: Recipe from The Healthy app

Evening snack: Rice crackers and a dip or chocolate as a treat

Exercise: I walk at least 5 kms a day, so meditation once a week and have just started using my hula hoop.

Kerrie’s 3 tips for success

  1. Prioritise yourself
  2. Plan ahead and meal prep
  3. Exercise, even if it is only a 15 min walk 

“Do it for yourself, I learnt this the hard way!  Be kind to yourself, you will have bad days and that’s normal and ok. 

“It is how you deal with it that will assist you along the way. Take time for yourself, meditate if you can.  Mindset is half the battle!  Love life again, it goes by so quickly!”
