Samara Rochelle Khoury from Sydney joined the Healthy Mummy five years and lost 17 kilos by following the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.
In that time, she gained all the tools to live her healthiest life, but more than that, she has learned to love herself and embrace who she is on the inside and out.
Below she shares her story in her own inspirational words.
“My Healthy Mummy journey started after my youngest was born, in January 2016. I had no self confidence and was at a very low point in my life.
It’s funny that we assume that we will feel on top of the world and full of love and laughter after having our babies, but that’s not always the case. I had postnatal depression and anxiety. Before long, I was a single mum with two gorgeous girls, but I was in a dark place.
Finding the Turning Point
I got to a point in my depression where I decided that this wasn’t how I wanted to feel. This wasn’t the example I wanted to be setting for my daughters. I knew something had to change, and The Healthy Mummy helped me find that change. I began to move my body and eat right. Not every day was easy. It has been a difficult journey, physically and mentally. But I am proud to say that I am now feeling great!”
Finding True Confidence
“Now, just over 5 years later, I can finally say I have found a good balance between eating right, moving my body, true confidence, and happiness. I am not at my lightest, nor am I at my fittest. But I am happy. I am living. I have matured and taught myself that life is too short to worry about the tag on your dress, or a number on the scales.
If I want to wear the bikini, I wear the bikini. If I want to eat the slice of cake, I eat the slice of cake. If I want to go for a walk, I do. If I decide to go for a big gym session, I go for it. We only get our time here once – why waste it worrying about numbers that do not equate to our happiness?!”
“I know that on social media it can seem as though I really have it all together, but I honestly am like any other woman out there. I have my struggles, I have my insecurities, and I most certainly have my bad days. But I try to remind myself that as long as the better days outweigh the not so good ones, I’m winning.”
Samara’s Advice to other mums
“My advice to anyone is to take it one day at a time. Focus on ONE thing to begin with. Success will be a lot harder if you focus on changing too much at once. Don’t concentrate too hard on the numbers, but rather on smaller goals that you can tick off each day. For example, focus more on your daily water intake, steps or active minutes – rather than how many kilos you can lose in a week. This shifts the focus from direct weight loss, to creating a happier, healthier, more maintainable lifestyle for you and your family.”
