Women who are in relationships where the partner does an equal share in the household chores have been found to have a higher libido!

This isn’t just a line used to get their other half to help out, and there’s actually some science behind it.

The study, which was published in the Journal of Sex Research, found some pretty interesting things regarding sex and pulling your weight in a relationship!

Women feel more sexually attracted to their partners who do their share of the housework

Men can boost their sex life by doing their share of the housework

Aussie researchers surveyed nearly 300 women in relationships about their sex lives and who did the most household jobs.

They found that women who are in relationships where their partners take an equal share in the chores feel more sexual desire compared to women who don’t have any help.

“Our research acknowledged the nuances of women’s desire and its strong connection to relationship quality by exploring how fairness in relationships might affect desire,” study authors wrote in The Conversation.

“Findings suggest one response to low desire in women could be to address the amount of work women have to take on in relationships.”

Women are more satisfied sexually in a relationship that is equal

It seems women who are in equal relationships, sharing the housework and the mental load, are more satisfied in their relationship.

This, in turn, means they’re more likely to feel sexual desire. This study also suggests that low libido in women may be down to relationships.

What’s more, the study also found that men and women who had kids together were more likely to suffer, as kids increase the workload for women.

Experts want to do more research and maybe even trial a ‘housework and mental load ban’ for women with low sexual desire.

Scientists want to see if there are any changes to their sexual desire.

How losing weight can improve your sex drive

Meanwhile, did you know that losing weight can kick start your sex drive back into action?

Not only may you feel better about your body, but you’ll actually go through some major physical changes as well.

Here’s how being overweight can dampen your libido…

How losing weight can improve your sex drive

How the scales can sabotage your sex life

1. You’ll feel less aroused

High cholesterol can cause the blood flow to your genitals to slow down, which can make it harder to get aroused and or have an orgasm.

2. You’ll have less energy

Sex uses most muscles in your body and can be a high-intensity exercise. If you are feeling overweight, you may have less energy and be out of breath.

3. You’ll feel less confident

When you feel shy about your body, this could lead to performance anxiety.

4. It could limit your positions

If you’re overweight, you may struggle to satisfy yourself or your partner because some sexual positions could become challenging.

5. It could take intimacy out of the bedroom

If you’re feeling overweight, tired and anxious, it could hinder an opportunity to connect with your partner on a physical level.

4 of the best sex positions to help you lose weight

How losing weight can improve your sex drive

We’ve previously talked about how sex can burn calories and exactly how many calories can be burnt, so why not get into talking about which positions?

Yes, that’s right, certain sex positions can burn more calories than others while maximising the blasting of belly fat!

It’s not only the position that affects how much belly fat you burn, but it’s also about how vigorous you are doing it and how long you are doing it for.

So, the more energy you put in, the more belly fat will be blasted. Hands of female and male lying on bed

1. Standing

When in this standing position, you have to work twice as hard as you would if lying down. Bracing your core to support your own weight is a workout in itself. You’ll be moving many muscles, especially your calves and glutes! Hello, peach bum.

2. Missionary position

Although this one might be associated with a less adventurous love life, missionary is a great calorie burner. It works the glute, inner thighs and core muscles and, depending on the exact position you adopt, can also work your arms too.

3. Cowgirl

If you want to maximise calorie burn and target your inner thighs, glutes and abs, the cowgirl is the way forward. And throw in quads and hamstrings, too if you decide to use a ‘squat variation’ position.

You could even approach it in ‘interval’ training if you wanted to. 1, 2, 3, go!

4. Doggystyle

In this primal position, your partner will get a great workout for his glutes and core, whilst for you, it’s especially tough on the triceps, chest, core and legs! All in all, it’s a great position for racking up that calorie expenditure.
