Healthy Mummy Super Coach Cicily Goodwin, who has lost 56kg through the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge, has shared how she makes achievable goals and also reaches them!
The Nambucca Heads-based mum says, “When it comes to weight loss, there are so many ways you can approach it.
“But to give yourself the best chance of success long term it’s important to make goals that not only push you to keep going in your journey, but also are attainable.”
Cicily reveals how she makes achievable goals for herself
“When making goals you need to think about that what is actually going to be achievable within your lifestyle.
Do you go out for dinner? Or do you enjoy going out for coffee with your friends? Or do you regularly go on holidays where you enjoy all the foods you love?
All of these things can impact your weight loss progress, so in order to make goals that you can reach, we need to account for these.”
“Throughout my weight loss journey, I went out for dinner every week,” she says.
“I didn’t want to feel like I was missing out so I left this night as my ‘cheat night’. However, because I’d set myself a goal of 700 grams per week,
“I was still able to reach this weekly weight loss goal. This still lead me to a 35kg loss in the period of 12 months, so I was able to live while still reaching my target.”
Why it’s important to have a long-term goal
“It’s important to have a long-term goal with a time frame that you want to get there in. But then, what’s even more important is to break that down into what you need to achieve each month to get there.”
“This is how I came up with my 700gram per week target,” says Cicily. “It helped me to stay focused each week and also gives me the ability to track what’s working and assess what I could change the next week if I was not reaching that target.”
Make a reward system to help reach these goals
“I recommend making a reward system for yourself as you reach these goals”, says Cicily.
“For me, this was every 5kgs I lost I gave myself $100 guilt free to spend on myself, with which I would buy a new piece of clothing, get my hair done or get my nails done,” she says.
“Make your reward something you really want so you keep pushing yourself to get there. After a while I didn’t need the rewards anymore, because the weight loss I was achieving kept me motivated in itself, but in the beginning I found this a very helpful push to reach my goals.”
Cicily’s 56kg weight loss story
“I used to blame my problems on others, now I realise I was just unhappy in myself but in too much denial to see it,” says Cicily.
Cicily reveals she used to buy maternity clothes when she was at her heaviest.
“I used to buy maternity clothes just because they were stretchy and forgiving. Now I can buy tight denim,” she says. “I used to buy daggy undies, now I buy whatever I want because it all comes in my size.
“I used to wear size 24 tights, now I can fit both of my legs in one leg hole.”
What’s more, Cicily states that the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge is not a diet but a lifestyle change!
“I’ve lost a lot of weight with The Healthy Mummy. I cannot recommend it enough. It’s a new world. But that’s not the great part about it,” says Cicily.
“It’s not the number on the scales that makes me happy…it’s walking past a mirror and not hating what I see!”
