Whether stemming from jealousy or actual concern, there will always be people who can’t cope with their former overweight friend’s slimmer new body and newfound confidence. This is the sad reality of human nature.

Healthy Mummy mum Kerrie O’Brien sadly discovered this for herself. She shares how to stay STRONG despite negative comments you might receive during your weight loss journey.

It’s a hard pill to swallow. But we urge you not to let these negative comments deter you from living your best and healthiest life.

In her late 40s, over 18 months, she lost 16kg, dropped many dress sizes and completely transformed her health and life, and she has maintained it ever since.

Kerrie not only looks fantastic, she feels fantastic too. She says “I never thought I would be in the best shape of my life in my 50’s“. Read more about Kerrie’s AMAZING weight loss journey here

Negative comments about Kerrie’s weight loss

You are not STILL losing weight are you?
You are wasting away!
We need to fatten you up you look too skinny!
When are you stopping this “ diet”?
Don’t lose too much weight it’s not “ healthy”.
You’re wearing a size 6 ? Really? That’s too small!

Kerrie says “These are just some of the comments I’ve had from friends, acquaintances, family and even strangers on my weight since losing weight and getting healthy.

It’s amazing how I’ve had more negative comments on my body since losing weight and being healthy than I ever did than when I was overweight and unhealthy, even when I was at my biggest!”.

“I’ve lost friends and family over losing weight”

The unfortunately side of Kerrie’s weight loss journey is that not everyone has shared her happiness for turning her life and health around.

She says “I’ve learnt that not everyone is going to be as enthusiastic about your health journey as you are.

Sometimes people can be quick to question you or to make you doubt yourself.

I’ve lost friends and even family over losing weight. Crazy right?!”.

“What matters most is our own happiness”

“We don’t do this journey for other people. Sure, we may want to be healthier for our loved ones. But at the end of the day, the person who we need to be doing this for, is us.

What matters most is our own happiness. I definitely know that I’m happy, I’m healthy and I’m well in the middle of the healthy weight range for my height. I’m doing this for myself first and foremost.

I’m lucky that I have a very supportive husband who is the first to defend me.

I am also very lucky that The Healthy Mummy has not only helped me lose nearly 20kgs but that it has given me a healthy body, a healthy mind and the strength to handle any negativity.

Stay strong – this journey is about you!

“If you have doubters along the way during your journey stay STRONG!

The Healthy Mummy is a long term healthy lifestyle not a short term diet and sometimes people won’t understand where you are going but that’s okay because it’s not about them, this journey is all about you”.

You are absolutely right Kerrie.  This journey is about YOU and you are such an inspiration to all of us here at The Healthy Mummy team.

Thank you for sharing your valuable advice with us.

Get Kerrie’s top 3 tips for starting your health and weight loss journey

1. Start slow and don’t try to master everything at once. Focus on food first and get that under control before going headfirst into exercise.

2. If you have a bad day don’t let it affect you just keep going and focus on making healthy choices the next choice you make.

3. Don’t expect weight loss or new habits to come overnight. It’s a steady process that happens bit by bit.
