Pre-existing health issues can make pregnancy or conceiving difficult.

And though she successfully gave birth to her eldest daughter, Tiffany Patterson’s unhealthy habits were making it difficult to conceive a second child. But after losing weight and re-evaluating her health, she’s now pregnant with baby number two!

“I’m a type 2 diabetic, have PCOS, took 13 months of trying and a miscarriage before this baby came along and I’m so happy to have made it this far,” Tiffany says.

Tiffany’s pregnancy journey

After her miscarriage, Tiffany turned to emotional eating to cope.

“I had times that I didn’t really want to leave the house, didn’t want anyone to drop in because I wasn’t on top of the housework and I felt like I was letting my daughter down by being sad and not taking her out enough,” she said.

But a big wake up call happened when a doctor explained to Tiffany that her kidneys and liver were not 100 per cent healthy. This was due to unmanaged blood sugar as a result of her diabetes and her doctor explained that she needed to take her medication differently.

“Something clicked for me then and not just for future children, but staying alive to see my daughter have children some day, I knew I had to change,” Tiffany said.

A healthy and happy mummy-to-be!

Tiffany started with The Healthy Mummy smoothies and became more focused on healthy eating and exercise. Since then, not only have her energy levels increased, but Tiffany’s kidneys and liver have improved tremendously. And within about 6 weeks of changing, she fell pregnant!

Tiffany is now 13 weeks pregnant with her second child AND has lost almost 7kg.

“I think for me it was all about being confronted with harsh and scary truths,” says Tiffany.

When her daughter was conceived in 2014, she weighed 92.6kg. And though she lost around 10kg, she gained it back plus another 7. But with her second baby, it’s been a different story.

“This time I started at 100kg but today I’m 93.1 so only 500g before I hit my first goal which is my first pre-pregnancy weight,” says Tiffany.

Tiffany is aware she will gain some weight as the baby grows but she is determined to maintain and keep improving to keep her baby safe, set an example for her daughter, stay off insulin and have a healthier happier life after the baby is born.

Tiffany adds, “I’m very excited to see the new Healthy Mummy Breastfeeding PLUS product, I’m going to try it when the time comes!”

Breastfeeding-Plus

The Healthy Mummy’s Breastfeeding PLUS can help give new mums a boost of energy (and let’s face it, we can all benefit from that) and has been linked to better mental health during the postnatal period.

If you want to prolong your breastfeeding relationship, or boost a low supply, Breastfeeding PLUS can be beneficial.

Easily taken by mixing the powder in water or juice, Breastfeeding Plus is ideal for people who don’t like taking tablets. Just keep it with your breakfast or smoothie ingredients so that you remember to take it each day.
