‘Everyone thought I’d been in a fight’: Mum explains why she was covered in bruises while pregnant

Brooke Jones suffered with iron deficiency – and this caused her to bruise very easily. Her bruises were even worse when she was pregnant.

“For as long as I can remember, I have been extremely iron deficient. I would wake up covered in bruises and not have any idea where they came from – and during pregnancy this was even worse,” she say.

“I was always so tired and had a lot of headaches. The bruises made it look like I’d been in a fight!”

Brooke says during the birth of both of her daughters, she lost a lot of blood, which saw her levels drop even more dramatically.

“At one blood test, I had less than 1mg of iron in my system. After the birth of my second child I also suffered from ovarian vein thrombosis,” she says.

I was put on blood thinners and also told not to eat leafy vegetables, as they would reverse the thinners I was on. So this meant my iron levels dipped even lower to almost non-existent levels.”

Ovarian vein thrombosis is a rare condition occurring in 1/600 to 1/2000 pregnancies and is the cause of abdominal pain that may mimic a surgical abdomen.

Brooke says she needed to do something and fast, as her immune system and body couldn’t take much more being so iron deficient. She says at one point her skin was almost translucent.

Brooke loves her Super Greens:

“Thankfully, the Healthy Mummy brought out the AMAZING Super Greens and since its release I have used it every day – either by itself or in smoothies,” she says.

“And I have FINALLY got myself back to relatively normal iron levels.

“My ovarian vein thrombosis has completely gone and I have incredible amounts of energy.”

This is great new, Brooke! We’re so glad that you’re feeling happier and healthier.
