Cassie McKay has previously lost 10kgs on the
28 Day Weight Loss Challenge after having her second child and maintained it for over three years.
So when she gained some extra weight during her pregnancy for baby number three, she knew she had the tools and support to lose 5kg in seven weeks and keep healthy whilst looking after her almost nine-month-old.
Cassie’s starting weight was 78.3kg and her current weight is 73.5kg.

Cassie’s 5kg weight loss story and how she signed up to The Healthy Mummy
In fact, Cassie says she initially signed up in January 2017.
“My friend was sharing photos of her meals, and they looked AMAZING. She told me she had signed up for The Healthy Mummy’s 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge, so I joined the Facebook support group to see what it was all about,” she says.
“The inspiring stories and delicious food I saw within the group was all I needed to give it a go.”
Cassie says she came from a background of restrictive eating practices.
“What struck me as amazing was that The Healthy Mummy was nothing like this – it is based on each person eating to their own individual needs,” she says.
“This mum needs chocolate and can still enjoy it as part of a healthy lifestyle… winning!!”
“Once I had lost 10kg, I began looking for my next challenge. As someone who had never been into exercise or fitness, I was once again inspired by the members of The Healthy Mummy Facebook group and set a goal to join a gym.”
“I became the fittest and healthiest I had been in my entire life.”
Trying to navigate pregnancy and healthy eating during lockdown
As a resident of Metro Melbourne, Cassie spent 20 months in and out of lockdown.
“I relied heavily on the online support of The Healthy Mummy community during this time,” she says.
“I fell pregnant last year with my third child. I don’t do pregnancy well and found that eating carbs almost constantly was the only thing that kept me from feeling unwell.”
“I gained over 20kg this time around and finished my pregnancy at around 83kg. I had a little boy (weighing 2.5kg) just before Christmas.”
“He was born via c-section and I was left with ongoing pubic symphysis pain and abdominal separation. The recovery has been slow, but thanks to my previous successes, I know that with consistency and determination, I can get where I need to be!”
Even though adjusting to life with three kids has been hard, Cassie says she is happy to have The Healthy Mummy by her side. Helping her meal plan and even saving some money!
“I’m currently saving at least $100 a week thanks to meal planning through the app. I then add everything straight into the Woolworths app and have it delivered, so no impulse purchases,” she says.
“I love food, and with there now being thousands of recipes on the app, I’m never bored. The customisable meal plans and auto-generated shopping lists are another bonus, and I’m loving the daily trackers at the moment.”
Cassie’s advice for others:
- The best advice I can give is to approach this from a health perspective rather than weight loss. When my goal is to eat as much fresh food and incorporate as many vegetables into my day as possible, then I always feel better.
- At the same time, don’t restrict and leave out what you love. I eat chocolate in some form every single day. I know if I try to cut it out completely, I’ll end up eating an entire block of chocolate, so having some every day is what I find works best for me.
- Don’t let setbacks get you down. They are inevitable. You can’t reach your goals if you give up. And as I’m getting older, I’m finding that if I really need to look after myself. Don’t stop!

10kgs may be gone, but Cassie has decided to change her perspective on “losing” weight.
Cassie says, “To me, losing something is usually an accident. When I lose something, I go looking for it. But those 10kg? I’m certainly not going looking for them anytime soon!”
