Core Strength: Your Body’s Hidden Powerhouse (Especially After Having Kids!)
Core Strength: Your Body’s Hidden Powerhouse (Especially After Having Kids!)
Let’s chat about your core – and no, we don’t mean apples!
Have you ever wondered why they call it your “core”? It’s not just because it’s in the middle of your body. Your core is like your body’s central command centre, a network of muscles running from your lower back and hips all the way up to your shoulders. These muscles work together like a well-oiled machine to do some pretty amazing things!
Think of your core as your body’s built-in shapewear. It stabilises your spine, keeping your posture on point and preventing back pain and injuries. Every move you make, from bending down to pick up your little one to smashing out a Healthy Mummy workout, starts with your core!
Now, we know pregnancy and birth can really shake things up down there. Your core muscles might feel a bit like overcooked spaghetti – weak and stretched out or you may even be suffering abdominal separation. This can lead to back pain, wobbly pelvic floor issues, and that frustrating feeling that your body’s not quite the same.
The good news is, we’ve got your back (and your front, and your sides!). Rebuilding your core strength is totally doable, even after a c-section, and you don’t need fancy gym gear to do it. Sme of the best core exercises are ones that you can find right here in our Healthy Mummy app:
- Planks: The classic core burner
- Bird-dog: Great for balance and stability
- Dead bug: Funny name, but serious core workout
Aim to do some core exercises 2-3 times a week. Remember to breathe and engage your core with each exhale – it’s like giving your muscles a little pep talk!\
Strong core = strong you! It’s not just about looking good (though that’s a nice bonus!). A strong core helps you tackle anything life throws your way, from chasing after the kids to conquering your fitness goals.
