Mum learns to cook healthy meals and drops 14.5kg in 12 weeks
Katherine Smith has lost 14.5 kg and lost 42cm by following The Healthy Mummy’s 12 Week Challenge and she looks FANTASTIC!
The mum-of-two signed up and it didn’t take long for her to make a body positive change.
“I’ve lost a total of 14.5kg, which blows my mind but I also know it’s the tip of the iceberg, I still have quite a lot of weight to lose.”

How Katherine lost 14.5kg on the 12 Week Challenge
One of the main motivations for Katherine to join the 12 Week Challenge was so she had a better relationship with food.
“I am not a natural cook. I didn’t know how to cook healthy dishes that were ‘fussy’ friendly so I always took the easy way out,” she says.
“So I was not only challenging myself to stay healthy, but challenging myself to learn to cook and follow recipes (something I truly struggled with before).
“The kitchen and my meals have become my ‘me time’ and my kids have learnt to respect my space a little bit more.”
How Katherine got rid of her aches and pains
Before the challenge, Katherine says she was having a really difficult time managing her knee and back pain, as well as constantly waking in the night with numb hands.
“All of these symptoms that negatively impacted my life have reduced dramatically, I barely notice them at all now, they used to be a daily burden,” she says.
“In fact, I never put my self in any priority prior to the challenge. Putting my body, food, skincare and self in a position of high importance has made a huge impact on my mental health.
“And I really disliked the person I saw in the mirror and I didn’t recognise her at all, but as the kilos are going, I am seeing myself again, I feel like I’m getting myself back.”
What a typical day looks like
Breakfast: Healthy Mummy smoothie with fruit
Lunch: Yoghurt bowl
Dinner: Leftovers or wraps
“My children (and husband) are quite picky eaters and dinners were definitely an obstacle I had in starting any type of healthy eating revolution.
“Through trial and error we’ve found our favourite dinners which include burgers, schnitzels and pasta dishes which my whole family will happily eat.”

In fact, Katherine loved the last 12 weeks so much that after 10weeks she decided to become a member of the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.
“This is now a way of life for me. It is a lifestyle not a diet. I really love exploring all the new ways to cook healthy and discovering new flavour combinations that speak to my tastebuds.
“My motto this whole time has been slow and steady. To start with small goals and build on them. Having a supportive and positive cheer squad is the best, but also remember to be kind to yourself. remembering that to get anywhere you take it one step at a time.”
