Mum’s 17.2kg weight loss and overcoming postpartum depression and anxiety

It’s hard to believe that just a few years ago when she started her Healthy Mummy journey she was racked with anxiety and suffering postpartum depression.

Samara shares her AMAZING mental and physical transformation below.

Samara’s weight loss journey

Samara joined The Healthy Mummy in January 2016, a week after giving birth to her second daughter. Mentally and physically at her lowest point and she was desperate to find herself again!

Not only did she gain almost 20kgs, but she also admits that she was fueling her body with all the wrong things.

She says “My diet consisted mostly of soda, chocolate bars, and Krispy Kreme donuts!

I felt sluggish, I was depressed through pregnancy and had bad anxiety too.”

After my daughter was born, I absolutely hated what I saw when I looked in the mirror. I was not the mum I wanted to be.

Not only did none of her clothes fit the way she wanted them too, but Samara also says she was constantly feeling sad, anxious and short tempered. 

Lacking self-confidence she preferred to stay at home, rather than go out anywhere.

Signing up to The Healthy Mummy

The day Samara made the conscious decision to put herself higher on the priority list was the day she joined The Healthy Mummy 28 Day Weight Loss Challenges.

She says “It was the day my life changed and the day I realized I was worth it!”

Rather than exercise being a punishment for what she has eaten, Samara says that exercise has become a celebration of what her body can do.

Overcoming obstacles during weight loss journey

Like all mums, Samara’s weight loss journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing. She says “There have been SO many ups and downs. There have been SO many excuses. There have been SO many times I’ve thought I wasn’t moving forward or times I’ve actually taken steps backward. 

But you know what’s remained consistent.

I HAVE NEVER GIVEN UP ON MYSELF.

Through all the tough times, through all the excuses. I have NEVER failed because I ALWAYS get back up.

So take this as a reminder – not every day will be easy, but it will get easier every day”. 

Overcoming fears and developing self-confidence

Before joining The Healthy Mummy, Samara was always living her life worried about how other people saw her.

She says “I was always worried about what other people thought of me and said about me.

Living with the fear that I was never good enough.

But now I have found true self-love, self-respect, self-worth, and self-confidence.”

“I am now the happiest, healthiest, most confident version of myself. I have beaten depression and am living my best life possible for myself and my two daughters.

My goal is to show the ‘every day’ mum that it is possible to reach your health and weight loss goals with The Healthy Mummy. It’s not a fad and it is maintainable.”

Tips for staying on track with weight loss

  • Meal prep  – it will make all the difference when you feel like straying from your healthy meal plan.
  • Set small daily goals – this will help you from feeling overwhelmed.
  • Try to fit in as much incidental exercise as you can each day
