In fact, you can still  have them – just in a healthier version – a fakeaway instead of a takeaway. Simply put – just cook a healthier version of your fave takeaway meal. Not only will this save you money, it will help you lose weight quickly and feel great!

Shelley Moore loves the Kentucky Based Chicken and Coleslaw

Mums share their favourite FAKEAWAY recipes!

32-year-old Shelley Moore has lost 6kg with The Healthy Mummy’s 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.

“My favourite takeaway was always KFC,” says the mum-of-four. “I love that with The Healthy Mummy I don’t have to miss out. My tip for not giving into takeaway cravings is by using the app to save favourite recipes so you can find them in an instant!

“Also, having the ingredients handy in the pantry, fridge or freezer so the convenience of ordering takeaway doesn’t win you over! My favourite fake away meal is the Kentucky Baked Chicken and Coleslaw.”

Jessica Lewis loves the Hawaiian Chicken Schnitzel

Jessica is a mum-of-three based in the Gold Coast.

“My favourite past time is to go to the pub and have a chicken schnitzel or Parmigiana and it’s an even bigger bonus if the pub has a Hawaiian chicken schnitzel but not all do,” she says.

“I was blown away when I found the “Air Fryer Hawaiian Parmigiana” as it ticks all my boxes and some because I can make it from the comfort of my home and it does not cost an arm and a leg!”

Jessica’s big tips for making fakeaways: Get your family involved

Her biggest tip is to do this with your family.

“I stay on track because I have my family onboard. My family enjoy the meals and they are involved in choosing them too.

“They get to choose burgers (another favourite) and all kinds of foods we never ate before and they are enjoying all the different foods we are having. If they weren’t on board it would be hard but they don’t even ask for takeaway these days.

“I also don’t feel good after takeaway now, I think my body has adjusted and I feel sick afterwards so that helps me not cave in. I also tell my accountability buddy (my mum) whenever I do eat something off my meal plan – she helps keep me on track as I do for her.”

Fi Redding loves The Healthy Mummy Schnitzel

Mum-of-two Fi Redding has lost 34kg with The Healthy Mummy after her son was born and 10kg so far since her daughter was born.

“My favourite takeaway would be schnitzel sandwiches with chips. And my favourite from the Healthy Mummy app is the schnitzel,” she says.

“We love having as is in the app or we make it into home made schnitzel sandwiches with homemade chips or sweet potato chips.

“My hubby’s favourite is the nacho hot dogs and they are so amazing. Mr. 2 loves the Indian curries and we all also enjoy weekly the Mexican recipes. There really is everything in the app.”

Fi’s top tips for takeaways:Have homemade takeaway on a Friday night if you usually get takeaway

“It really helps us to not go and get takeaway. And if we are feeling like Indian or Chinese we incorporate this into our menu for the week and use one of the thousands of recipes from the app.

“I can’t remember the last time we got takeaway. It’s also a way to save some money.”

Nicole Bradshaw loves The Healthy Mummy pizzas

Nicole signed up to The Healthy Mummy in late August 2021 and has lost 14.9kg and over 50cm.

“My favourite take away would have to be pizza on a Friday or Saturday night. I also love subway that’s where I got my very first job many years ago,” she says.

“I love that The Healthy Mummy has fakeaway meal options because I couldn’t live without pizza, burgers or subway.”

Ways Nicole stays on track and not cave into takeaway food:

  • Ensure I have one healthy mummy fakeaway recipe each weekend
  • Freeze any leftover pita breads so if my family want really pizza then I just pull out 1 or 2 small pitas from the freezer and make healthy yummy pizza 
  • Get my kids involved in marking pizzas as they think this is fun so less likely to want to read deal
  • Let hubby choose burgers from The Healthy Mummy app, so he is less likely to want the real deal also!
  • Have a freezer stash of meatballs

Gemma Corey loves the Nacho Hot Dogs

Gemma has lost 25kg following The Healthy Mummy 28 Day Challenges! 

“My favourite takeaway treat is anything that I can order ahead and go and pick up. If we do get takeaway – I generally have to go to at least two different places to keep everyone happy,” she says.

“I have so many favourite fakeaway meals from the app but currently my favourite fakeaway is the Nacho Hot Dogs!!! “

“I always keep burger buns and patties, sausages, pizza bases and crumbed chicken in the freezer. That way, if I am running late or am too busy with bub I always have the ability to quickly whip up a family favourite! 

“I almost always avoid caving in by thinking about how much takeaway costs (close to $40), the time it takes to get collect it and how I feel yuck after eating it!

“We don’t abstain completely, but we have definitely cut down from 3 times per week to once per fortnight!”

Shantelle Brumfield is a big fan of the Easy Fried Rice

Mum-of-five Shantelle has lost 30kg with The Healthy Mummy and her favourite recipe is the Easy Fried Rice. 

“My favourite FAKEAWAY dish would definitely be the easy fried rice. I absolutely love fried rice. It is so quick and so easy,” she says.

“My tips for not caving and getting a takeaway, is definitely meal prep and planning.

“If you have a night of the week that you know your too busy for cooking or you just simply want a night off prep that meal during the week leading up to it.”

Belinda Tonkin’s fave fakeaway is the Hidden Veggie Burgers

Adelaide-based Belinda has lost 38.4kg and 106cm with The Healthy Mummy since joining in August 2021.

“Our fave Fakeaway is the Hidden Veggie Burgers. We make it fun to by laying everything out on the table and letting our daughter build her burger,” she says.

“We find this process gets her involved and she eats her salad and the burger as well. My top tips on how you stay on track and not get takeaways is meal planning and prepping. 

“I find having snacks and meals sorted and prepped helps avoid those temptations when you’re likely to order take away at the last minute such as, when you get home late from work, or you didn’t get to the shops in time.”

What’s more, Belinda says she deleted takeaway apps off her phone and also makes sure she doesn’t skip meals.

“I also recommend using The Healthy Mummy app to record your meals and drinks , there is no way I want to record fast food down. So, this really helps to keep me accountable,” she adds.
