Sascha Farley shares her top exercise tips and how to find time to exercise

I never thought I would actively have to think about fitting in exercise. A few kids in, I was able to head to the gym each morning and pop them in the creche, now I have to plan when to have a shower!

With four young kids, full time work and minimal sleep and budget, I really had to stop overthinking my exercise choices.

Not sure where to start? Jump into The Healthy Mummy app, it is super extensive, with guided workouts and SO many options!

How to fit it in exercise:

1. Stop the overthinking and just know that every little bit counts

Lunge through the house instead of walk, squat with each item of clothing you hang on the line, do a Dance Fit workout from the app each afternoon with the kids!

Make it fun, make it work.

2. Park your car further away from the shops, school drop of etc. and walk

Walk around the block morning or afternoon. If you have babies, use the baby wearing workouts from the app.

3. Create a realistic baseline routine

For example, I always set the intention of exercising three times a week as a minimum – it’s more motivating to reach your goals than set them too big and feel like you’re failing when you miss a workout.

Try Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or whatever days work for you, and go from there.

4. Find whats most effective for you

While anything is better than nothing, and as I’ve said above for some crazy lifestyles, simple is best and fitting in where you can just has to work.

5. Go hard in the time you have

If you have the time and energy to figure out whats most effective for you, do it! I know that HIIT workouts combined with weights see me burn the most calories and get me quick results!

Walking or running might work for the next person but its different for everyone. The best way to track this is with a fitness watch. another great Idea to find time to exercise.

6. Figure out what you love!

Usually the kind of workout that is most effective for you will be the kind of exercise you love the most as you’re more like to put you’re all into it!
Don’t do weights if you don’t love it. Find something that gets you going!

7. Nutrition is key!

I believe that nutrition is the core of everything, it will determine your energy levels, bloating etc. So essentially start there and the more on track you are the more likely your exercise routine will fall into place more easily.

If I’m fuelling my body correctly, everything else aligns, I’m focused, energised, less bloated and more likely to feel like moving my body!

Don’t forget if you exercise regime changes so should your calories so always go to the BMR calculator to check where you’re at!

Sascha’s lost 34 kilos with The Healthy Mummy

Before discovering The Healthy Mummy, Sascha tried a lot of different diets, a lot of restriction and a lot of all or nothing. For her, it was all about that quick fix and she’d believe all the crazy weight loss myths like restrictive calorie counting and not eating after 6pm.

“I didn’t think that living a healthy lifestyle was possible to enjoy, so I thought that it was always deprivation and punishment in the gym or being unhappy with your body so I couldn’t find the balance between the two. I didn’t have that knowledge and education,” says Sascha.

Bursting with confidence!

Sascha admits she’s always been very self conscious.

“I always hated my legs, always hated my lower body and never appreciated my body for what it could do, it was always what it looked like,” she says.

But now, for Sascha it’s not about having the confidence to wear different clothes. Instead, she says her confidence comes from what she’s eating, her improved health and energy levels and just knowing that she has control over her body in a way that she never did before! so no reason for you not to find time to exercise.

“It’s enjoyable now and I’m just generally happier and my mental health is better too, I think, from the inside out,” Sascha adds.
