Super Coach Sascha Farley has lost 30kg since she joined the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge. Not only is feeling healthier, she also looks incredible!

But the beautiful mum-of-four says she had some very ill-informed misconceptions about losing weight before she discovered The Healthy Mummy!

In fact, there are a lot of mistruths flying around and Sascha wants to bust the myths….

How Sascha combatted the excuses and lost 30kg

Sascha debunks the top weight loss myths

“I want to bust some myths around health and weight loss/gain!

As an overthinker myself it’s been important to me to research the ins and outs of what it takes to feel in control of my health.

In doing so, I feel more comfortable with my choices and having The Healthy Mummy by my side, its all made EVEN easier.”

Here are 4 Myths that AREN’T true and why

1. Eat less, move more

“Sounds great in theory but it isn’t that simple. Not eating enough generally results in regaining the weight back at a later stage.

That’s why the BMR calculator is so important. It provides your INDIVIDUAL energy needs based on your personal details.”

2. Carbs make you gain weight

“Whole foods which are high in carbohydrates are healthy and needed for normal body function and energy levels.

A calorie surplus (eating more than you burn) will cause weight gain, NOT carbs! They aren’t the enemy. I have carbs with every meal and most snacks. I was still able to shift 30kgs in 9 months using the meal plans.”

3. The scales don’t lie

Sascha, who has lost 30kg, discusses the top myths about weight loss!

“Oh YES they do!  For starters, the scales mean nothing unless you are doing regular body scans. Scales are simply your weight, they don’t take into account your muscle and fat percent, i.e body composition and this can change dramatically with no weight loss.

This comes down to the TYPES of foods you eat. For example, you could lose weight eating 1800 calories a day BUT if you ate 1800 calories of a balanced diet for three months, your body would look totally different to eating 1800 calories of fast food for three months. How MUCH you eat determines weight loss/weight gain – WHAT you eat determines your body composition and physical health – muscle/fat.”

4. All calories are equal

Sascha, who has lost 30kg, discusses the top myths about weight loss!

“Again, in theory yes they are. In terms of overall health and what your body is made up of and its processes, they’re not. Different types of foods will affect different processes within the body. This is why we talk about good fats, good sugars etc.”

Sascha’s top tips for weight loss success

“The key to staying motivated in your journey is focusing your attention away from the scales. Think about how you’re feeling, sleeping, what your energy levels are doing, body measurements and composition.

Steer clear of the 1200 calories fits all and be sure to calculate your BMR and stick to it as closely as possible each day.

Restriction is not long term, so aim for realistic daily goals to create healthy habit. Remember the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge app is your best friend!

It’s your one stop shop for everything you need for a healthy lifestyle, from home workouts, customisable meal plans, to full nutritional breakdowns on every recipe and so much more!”

Sascha’s weight loss story

Before discovering The Healthy Mummy, Sascha tried a lot of different diets, a lot of restriction and a lot of all or nothing. For her, it was all about that quick fix and she’d believe all the crazy weight loss myths like restrictive calorie counting and not eating after 6pm.

“I didn’t think that living a healthy lifestyle was possible to enjoy, so I thought that it was always deprivation and punishment in the gym or being unhappy with your body so I couldn’t find the balance between the two. I didn’t have that knowledge and education,” says Sascha.

Sascha admits she’s always been very self conscious.

“I always hated my legs, always hated my lower body and never appreciated my body for what it could do, it was always what it looked like,” she says.

But now, for Sascha it’s not about having the confidence to wear different clothes. Instead, she says her confidence comes from what she’s eating, her improved health and energy levels and just knowing that she has control over her body in a way that she never did before!

“It’s enjoyable now and I’m just generally happier and my mental health is better too, I think, from the inside out,” Sascha adds.
