At 45+ this mum never thought she would wear a bikini again

Cheryl Boughton, 47, from South Australia is a mum of 5 boys aged 20, 18, 15, 13, and 7.

“Finding The Healthy Mummy when my youngest was 5 weeks old helped me find me again. I’m not just a mum I’m still a person who deserves to be healthy!”

“Never did I think I’d feel confident in a bikini at the beach, I didn’t think I’d be a size 10-12 ever again. A healthy lifestyle, still enjoying the occasional chocolate but I’m now eating better.

“I discovered the Healthy Mummy Smoothies when my youngest was 5 wks old and got down to goal weight in 5 months following the gestational diabetes recommendations of eating 6 times a day I lost 18kgs once I stopped breastfeeding.

Losing weight despite health issues

“After my mum passed I put some of that weight back on so in July 2017 so I joined the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge to give my family a variety of different meals and motivate myself to get back to a healthy food relationship.

I suffer from hypothyroidism and was diagnosed when my youngest was about 2 years old, I’ve been on thyroid medication for 5 years, I try to eat healthily, but I still eat chocolate and I walk regularly most days and enjoy working out 2 to 4 days a week. Keeping my thyroid levels maintained helps heaps.

“At 38 I was a mum of 4 boys I didn’t look after myself or my health. I had to be there for my boys. Suffering gestational diabetes while pregnant was my wake-up call. I’m now a mum of 5 beautiful boys I’m grateful for my youngest as without him I wouldn’t have discovered the Healthy Mummy Smoothies 7 years ago.”

“I’m stronger fitter and healthier at 47 than I was in my 30’s”

“I’m a lot more active than I was when I had 4 kids, I walk my kids to and from school each day and do 45 to 60 minutes of activity 6 times a week.

I think becoming a mum again at 39 and that feeling of not being comfortable in my own skin. I wanted to not be fat at my 40th and finding the Healthy Mummy Smoothies (to help lose baby weight) back then made it that I could still breastfeed, lose weight and not skip meals.

I enjoy lightweight workouts but hate cardio workouts. I generally do my own exercises but sometimes I do an app workout if I can not decide on something, I love the belly exercises.”

Cheryl’s favourite Healthy Mummy Smoothie and recipes

“I love my Healthy Mummy Smoothies and generally have a Smoothie a day or use the Smoothie powder to flavour my morning porridge.

The family favourites would have to be Devilled sausages or Mexican lasagna and there always has to be Peanut bubble crunch in the freezer to snack on.”

Cheryl’s tips for other mums

  • Keep active! Don’t put yourself on a diet, it’s a lifestyle, you need to still live a fun family life.
  • Don’t put yourself down if you put some weight back on.
  • Don’t compare. This is your journey so don’t compare yourself to others and don’t get upset and give up if you slip back into old habits. Take it one day at a time.
