When you are trying to lose weight, keeping your metabolism beating along can assist with your healthy weight goals.  Unfortunately, much work today is done behind a computer, leaving us sedentary up to 8 hours or more each day.

1. Drink water

Drinking water regularly throughout the day can help your body burn fat more efficiently. Research suggests that if you drink 2 glasses of water, that within 10 minutes your body is working at an increased efficiency of 30%. So keep your bottle of water handy and get sipping.

2. Snack regularly

Snacking regularly in fact keeps our metabolism on the go. Regular small meals instead of large meals with extended breaks will help support your metabolism better, especially if you are sitting down all day.

3. Drink green tea

It may be the combo of both the catechins (healthful antioxidants) in tea and caffeine that revs metabolism, either way, research has suggested that drinking green tea stimulates our metabolism, and also tastes delicious.

4. Include protein in your snacks

Eating protein assists with your glycaemic control which will affect how hungry you feel, how satisfied you feel and how your metabolism runs. 5. Meditate at your desk

Research suggests that women who were more stressed have a slower metabolism and burned less fat after eating compared to those who were stress-free. So think about what relaxes you even while you are working. Is it meditation? Listening to music perhaps. Or closing your eyes and counting to 10. Breathe deeply and let the stress go so you can relax.

6. Get a standing desk

Standing up is not only a holiday for your back, but it also will help your body burn more calories. Within an hour of standing you can burn around 20 more calories than sitting. Obviously this will add up over the day and week. Trying standing up multiple times during the day.

7. Change your seat

By changing your seat to an exercise ball will activate your core and simultaneously switch on your metabolism. You do not need to use it all day, but by mixing it up with your regular seat and standing will keep your body moving and your metabolism going.
