Weight Loss

How Much Weight Should I Lose?

With the deadline of Summer looming there are weight loss advertisements everywhere.

Today in the supermarket I saw each magazine sprout a weight loss cure for Summer. Slogans such as Lose two dress sizes before summer or Lose 7 kilos in 2 weeks! When You Lose Weight, Where Does The Fat Go

These weight loss ‘programs’ are definitely not for new mothers and even more SO NOT for mothers which are breastfeeding.

The best way to lose weight AND sustain weight loss is to do it gradually.

At the Healthy Mummy we recommend that you aim to lose no more than 0.5 to 1 kilogram of weight per week. This is a safe amount of weight loss for breastfeeding mothers as well.

You might have read in our success stories that a few mothers talk about losing a few more kilos in the first week. This is often due to water loss and the fact they have often dramatically changed their diet. Often this will then plateau out to 0.5 to 1 kilogram per week.

The reason why this amount of weight loss is recommended and supported by many weight loss experts is because it often means that the method of weight loss is SUSTAINABLE. This amount of weight loss per week means you are embarking on a healthy eating and lifestyle change which you can sustain for life, not just the time in which you are losing the weight.

Your weight loss diet or program should really be called a healthy lifestyle change. Diet is often synonymous with something you start to lose weight for a finite period. A lifestyle and healthy eating change is one in which will stick with you for a lifetime.

One of the hardest things about weight loss is keeping it off. If you drastically and rapidly lose the weight, you have often done so in a method which is not sustainable. Think only eating soup for a week; only drinking juice; only eating protein; consuming no carbohydrates. These diets are NOT sustainable and not a positive lifestyle change.

With the Healthy Mummy we believe in long lasting weight loss, we believe in lifestyle changes for a healthier you and your family.

If you have a look at some of our weight loss success stories, you will see some follow up interviews with mothers who lost their pregnancy and baby weight over a year ago and have still kept it off. It is these success stories which are the amazing and transformative ones. The long lasting and life changing weight loss.

The common theme with the stories from these Healthy Mummies is that they changed their outlook on not only diet, but exercise and healthy lifestyle in general. Their lives became about their health and their famillies’ health.

One of the stories I enjoyed most was this Mummy, who lost on average over her whole weight loss journey an average of 0.3 kilograms per week. There is nothing glamourous or rapid about that. But she is still the 15kg lighter.

If you are ready to lose weight then The Healthy Mummy plans offer a healthy and safe exercise and diet routine that are safe if you are breastfeeding.
