Indulgent, Late Night Snack Ideas Which Are Healthy Too

When you are on a weight loss diet,  you often eat well all day and then night time comes and you can’t be bothered being ‘good’ anymore.

Well, you can be good, and still enjoy a late night snack which is delicious, nutritious and a little indulgent too.

It is actually sometimes better to accept that you are craving something sweet and enjoy it in moderation rather then ignoring the urge and bingeing later on a whole block of chocolate and feeling worse after the occasion.

Banana Berry Muffins

Here are 5 gorgeous options which you will have to hide while you are eating them so no one else hops in for a bite!!!

1. Raspberries and cream

Warm a cup of raspberries (could be from frozen) and add a little drizzle of maple syrup on top. Once piping hot, add a little dollop of yoghurt on top and enjoy. Around 90 calories.

2. Mini muffins

Whenever you make muffins or cake, spend a little on some individual portion of muffin trays which are smaller. This portioning will help you eat less and therefore eat less calories then a slice of cake. Try this delicious recipe, and made smaller, will be half the calories.

3. Healthy Chocolate dip with fruits

Store bought chocolate dip can often be high in processed white sugars and high in low quality fats. Try this recipe for your own homemade choccie dip.

Add a cup of hazelnuts or cashews into a blender with 2 tbs of cocoa powder.Whiz it up with 3 tbs of maple syrup or honey, a tsp of cinnamon and a few tbs of oil (try coconut oil for a lovely flavour). Use about a tbs of this delicious nutty chocolate and spread it on half an apple. You could even make a mini doughnut with 2 thin slices of apple too! 160 calories per serve

4. Raisin toast with ricotta, cinnamon and drizzle maple syrup

Keeping some good quality wholegrain fruit bread can be the perfect option for a late night snack. Add a dollop of low fat ricotta, some cinnamon and a drizzle of maple syrup and you a) won’t realise you are on a weight loss diet and b) will have to hide as someone else will want to nab some of your treat. 120 calories per serve

5. Chocolate pancakes with diced banana

Pancakes themselves are not unhealthy, it is what and how many you eat of them which is the issue.

Try this quick and easy recipe using 1 egg, 1 cup of wholemeal flour and 1 cup of milk. Add around 2 tbs of cocoa to the mix and beat till smooth. Rest the mixture for around 10 minutes while you slice up half a banana. Heat a pan and pop a little oil spray in it. Cook up your 8 pancakes (roughly roughly) and wrap 1 of the pancakes around your sliced banana and enjoy! 120 calories per serve
