Now there’s an incredible town that has created its own wine fountain, which dispenses a great drop of vino…for free. 24 hours a day. Seven days a week. Find your passports ladies, time to book a trip to Italy.
Of course, in Italy, wine is deeply ingrained in the culture. So it seems a natural progression to provide it as sustenance to those journeying the 225km pilgrimage route of Cammino di San Tommaso, in central Italy.
According to The Telegraph, the fountain was installed by local vineyard Dora Sarchese and will quench the thirst of the thousands who travel from Rome to Ortona to visit the remains of one of Jesus’ disciples, in the city’s cathedral.
It’s not the only wine drinking fountain in the world, there are others in Italy and France (how have we only just found out about this?!), but they only operate on special occasions. As this new wine fountain proves, any day is special enough for wine.
On its Facebook page, the vineyard said the fountain is poetry, but not a place for ‘drunkards’ or ‘louts’, so no doubt a close eye is kept on this now famous site.
