A new study has found that middle-aged adults who regularly eat miso paste are 10% less likely to die young!

Eating miso may be the secret to living a long life, study finds

Researchers from the National Cancer Centre interviewed around 100,000 people living in Japan about their diet and tracked them for a period of 15 years.

They found that those who ate fermented soy products, such as miso and natto, were less likely to die an early death.

Miso is a paste that’s often added to Japanese dishes such as sushi, soups and salads and has become increasingly popular in the Western World over the last few decades.

Miso has been a staple mean in Japan and could be why the Japanese have a long life expectancy and live up to 84 years. The life expectancy in Australia is 82 years.

Experts believe the reason why miso helps aid longevity is because it has compounds in it that helps keep cholesterol stable.

However, other soy products, such as tofu and soy milk, didn’t have the same effect.

“Increasing evidence has suggested that fermented soy products are associated with health benefits,” says Kayo Kurotani, of National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition.

“Whether people eat those products depends on their food culture, but some countries already include soy and fermented soy products in their dietary guidelines.”
