There has now been TWO cases of strawberry contamination in the last week and health authorities are advising all consumers to be cautious while eating the fruit.
In the latest case, a Sydney dad was left horrified after he found a metal screw inside a strawberry after taking a bite from it.
Just days before a nail was found in a punnet of the popular fruit at a store north of Adelaide.
Nails and screws found in STRAWBERRIES in the LAST week
The dad purchased the strawberries from Aldi and the incident has been reported to the police.
“I bit in and there was something hard and bad tasting … it was a screw,” the dad, who has been named as Jordan from Leichhardt in Sydney’s inner west, told 7NEWS.
“I’m just so lucky it wasn’t my daughter who bit into it. I find it so crazy that there are people in the world doing nasty things like putting metal in strawberries.”
Meanwhile, the strawberry punnet with the nail inside it was purchased in Gawler.
Last year, Australian strawberry farmers were in crisis as consumers avoided buying the fruit due to more than 100 reported cases of the fruit being contaminated with needles.
Sadly, many of these reports were fake or copycat incidences.
If people come across a contaminated strawberry, they should notify the police.
Anyone who eats a contaminated strawberry should seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY.
