10 ways to detox your mind and body

Many detox programs focus on the foods you should and should not eat but you should also detox your mind regularly.

Now, this is definitely a fundamental part of a good detox plan, however, there are other ways to promote a healthy clean body and mind like our 28 Day Weight Loss Challenges which will help you detox and lose weight

10 ways to detox your mind and body

1. Regular exercise

Although it may be tempting to do a workout for a good sweat, it may be better for you to do gentle exercise, especially if you’ve decreased your food intake while detoxing coupled with the increase in circulating toxins in your body.

You’re then less likely to be fatigued and more likely to feel energised and positive. A walk, swim or some of the resistance and weights workouts from our 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge App are great options.

2. Visit an infrared sauna

This can promote healthy sweat to ensure proper elimination of the nasty toxins. Plus, sitting down and relaxing in a peaceful sauna is good for the mind too!

3. Get lots of sleep

Your body is working hard at detoxing and cleansing itself, support these nurturing functions by getting plenty of rest.

Quality sleep is gauged by how you feel when you wake, if you are still tired, then you need more sleep. If you wake refreshed, then you are spot on.

Still can’t get your hours on the pillow in? Try this no-sleep smoothie.

4. Do a detox on your mindset

Your not-so-healthy eating patterns may be driven by or promoting an unhealthy mindset.

Practice meditation (or the Healthy Mummy Mind Body Breath Sessions in the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge App) to give your busy mind a break.

5. Baths are brilliant for detoxing

Not only are baths a great way to get in some self-care, adding things like clay or Epsom salts helps draw toxins out from your body.

Just keep the baths short when using them therapeutically like this so you don’t reabsorb the baddies!

Epsom salts are also great for belly fat, read up on how this hormone can make you gain stomach fat.

6. What’s on your skin??

Now is a really good time to look at your make up, creams, washes, perfumes and even nail polish and see if what you are putting on your skin every day is contributing to your toxic load or not.

A good rule is if you can’t eat it then don’t put it on your skin or choose products that are certified organic.

8. Mouth care

Our mouths are where digestion and detoxification begin. Saliva produced in our mouth helps to break down foods from the minute we place something in there.

We can help make it more effective by using natural toothpastes, tongue scraping, and oil pulling. All will help keep our mouth bacteria happy and healthy.

9. Dry brushing

This practice of using a bristled brush on your skin prior to showering helps blood circulation and increases the movement of the lymphatic system, which moves toxins around our body to be ultimately removed.

Try to build the habit of doing this at least once a week.

10. Purge your emotions

The best way to detox your mind is to take the time to let go of any of those lingering emotions.

There is growing evidence that our emotions turn our genes on and off and can really influence our health. Are you holding grudges that need to be let go? Do you need to forgive someone? Do you need to vent so you aren’t hanging on to anger?

All emotions are good to feel, even anger, but we tend to hold on to them, instead of just feeling it and moving forward. Having an emotional detox might be a difficult process but it really is necessary if you want to feel a true “lightness”.

To do this you may want to use a journal and get your thoughts out that way, or see a counsellor to get experienced help.

If you don’t acknowledge your emotions you could end up emotional eating, read how this mum did exactly that.

Food can be just the beginning of a detox – supporting your body plus looking at other aspects of life can then create a holistic detox.
