The Minister for Women and Associate Minister of both Health and Transport in New Zealand stopped us in our (bike) tracks when we saw her very creative Instagram post!
Julie Anna Genter CYCLED to the hospital to deliver her baby!
Beautiful Sunday morning for a bike ride, to the hospital, for an induction to finally have this baby. This is it, wish us luck! (My partner and I cycled because there wasn’t enough room in the car for the support crew… but it also put me in the best possible mood!) #42weekspregnant #cycling #bicyclesarethebest
Now, we’ve heard of mums doing the washing before going to the hospital, putting on makeup and even reorganising their house.
But this news is a whole other term for NESTING!
An advocate for riding your bike as a form of transport, Genter said she and her partner Peter Nunns cycled because “there wasn’t enough room in the car for the support crew… but it also put me in the best possible mood”.

Genter was 42 weeks pregnant when she rode to the hospital for her induction. This news comes off New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern giving birth to a baby girl and now returning back to work after 6 weeks maternity leave.
When it comes to Genter’s maternity leave, she will also have 6 weeks off and her partner will then be the child’s full time carer.
Nesting, it’s most likely to strike in the last weeks of pregnancy, as it seems the case for Genter, and strong urges to clean, organise, and prepare strike a mum-to-be.
The Journal Evolution & Human Behaviour state that nesting is a primal instinct going back thousands of years and is a result of a mechanism to PROTECT and PREPARE for the unborn baby.
It can also sometimes leads mums to do things that they would not do otherwise, but when it comes to Genter riding to the hospital, this is VERY on brand for her and her profession!
