1 in 4 Aussies will try a new diet this year, study reveals

It seems 2022 is the year of health for Australians, as more and more people are looking to focus on their health.

A new survey by comparison site Finder has found that one in four Aussies will try a new diet in 2022.

We’re not surprised people are beginning to focus on their health – it’s been a stressful time with many comfort eating or not being able to exercise properly after being so restricted during the pandemic!

But you don’t ever need to ‘diet’ again if you are following The Healthy Mummy’s 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge. We are not a quick fix diet for weight loss, we are a lifestyle overhaul!

A national survey of 1,000 people found that 24% are planning to try a new diet and the top trending diets for 2922 are keto, gluten-free and vegetarian diets.

What’s more, a further 6% will be attempting a vegan diet this year. 8% will try one new diet while 7% try two diets and 9% (1 in 10) will attempt three diets or more just this year alone!

It seems the younger generation, or Gen Z (born between 1997 and 2012), are more interested in starting a diet, with 40% planning on dieting, while 4% of baby boomers (born between 1955 and 1964) are keen.

Gen Z are keen to go vegetarian (21%), Gen X (born between 1965 and 1980) will be more likely to follow a low carb veto diet (8%).

“It’s easy to fall into bad habits when you’re busy working or taking care of the kids so setting goals can help to get things back on track,” says Kate Browne, personal finance expert at Finder.

“New habits can be hard to stick to so instead of making drastic changes, try taking small steps every day. If your goal is to stop eating meat, try one meat-free day a week and go from there.

“Changing your eating habits can be hard, so why not see if you can get a friend or your family to join you. Having a buddy will keep you motivated and help keep you accountable too.”

1. Start small

Make small steps every day. If your goal is to ditch meat, start with one meat-free meal a week and go from there.

2. Grab a buddy

Starting a healthy diet can be intimidating, so having a friend will help keep you motivated and accountable.

3. Make it affordable

To save money, stock up on bulk items like frozen veggies, canned beans and big bags or brown rice.
