Trista Cashman had been suffering anxiety and depression since her daughter was born. But that all started to change when she decided to put herself and her health first.
Just 6 months into the Healthy Mummy 28 Day Weight Loss Challenges, Trista is proving to be the BEST MUM POSSIBLE to her daughter.
Losing 24kg and 82cm from her body, she has managed to stay on top of her anxiety and depression. And now faced with her BIGGEST hurdle yet, she tackles it with newfound strength and determination.
Mum Trista shares her personal weight loss journey below.
Racked with anxiety and post natal depression
After the birth of her daughter in April 2017 Trista began to struggle. She says “Anxiety and postnatal depression had me in a complete rut-and I just didn’t care!
Towards the end of 2018 I saw a picture of myself and I was completely in shock at what my body had let itself get too.
I knew it was time to make a change
Trista knew it was time to make a change. She says “I had to show my daughter what healthy living looked like. Show her that being healthy doesn’t have to be hard or expensive”.
I had followed The Healthy Mummy Facebook group for a few years, in complete awe of the transformations that 100,000s of mums just like me where making.
I knew that I wanted to make a complete lifestyle change and not just a fad diet or something to get quick results – we all know these never last!
For me, that’s exactly what The Healthy Mummy offered-a safe, healthy and easy complete change of lifestyle, not only for me but for my husband, 2 year old and my 11 year old step son.

For exercise Trista simply walks five times a week.

“I soon discovered the smoothies and substituted them for breakfasts. I was always someone who skipped breakfast so smoothies made sure I didn’t.
I’m a full time working mother of a 2 year old so mornings are always busy. Put the smoothie in the blender while I’m doing showers, bags and dressing and then quickly into my shaker to take to work!
The smoothies are tasty and nutritious and a great way to avoid skipping meals when you’re busy or don’t feel like a meal”.

Overcoming obstacles during my Healthy Mummy journey
“I have had to overcome different issues to start a healthy lifestyle.
I’ve had the anxiety and depression threaten to come back when I had a bad meal or a bad day.
But I pushed through with the mentality that one bad day won’t ruin weeks/months of good work. I’ve realized that it’s ok to have treats if that’s all they are!”
Facing new hurdles with strength and determination
“The biggest challenge I am facing however is my diagnosis of Hodgkin Lymphoma.
My appetite has shrunk and I’m regularly too tired to exercise.
But when I look back at my pictures I am motivated to know that I am healthy and I am going to face this challenge with great nutrition behind me to help with treatment”.
Advice to other mums
When it comes to advice for mums it would be:
- Not be too hard on yourself. Amazing transformations don’t happen overnight.
If you beat yourself up over one bad meal you will undo all your amazing work as you will undo your mind set.
- Pick small goals to help keep you motivated. Some rewards that will push you past the times you want to give up.
